Chicago office blocks commended

[Published Oct 2011 and updated July 2023] A pair of office space towers in Chicago have been commended by the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) for the manner they are being operated and maintained.

A scheme called the 360 Performance Program aims to recognise commercial properties that are managed particularly well from the point of view of security and risk assessment, community involvement, tenant engagement and sustainability.

The Chicago office towers at 200 South Wacker Drive and at 222 South Riverside Plaza in the Loop district of the city were recently recognised by Boma, as was their owner Behringer Harvard.

Regus provides flexible office space and workspace solutions in office buildings on South Wacker Drive and also at  South Riverside Plaza.

WeWork also provides flexible workspace solutions on South Wacker Dive.

Flex space provider Industrious also offer agile workspace solutions in the Willis Tower which stands at 233 S Wacker Drive.

“It is a landmark achievement for our management and operations teams and sets 200 South Wacker Drive apart from our market competitors,” said Karen Gana, general manager of the offices.

“This independent evaluation is proof that Behringer Harvard provides outstanding customer service and operational excellence for its properties,” added Gerald Oliver, senior vice president of commercial property management for Behringer Harvard.

The company, which boasts some $11 billion worth of property assets in all, acquired 222 South Riverside Plaza just over five years ago. The site has roughly 1.2 million square feet of rentable office space in the West Loop sub-market of Chicago.

Chicago has the second largest business district in the US behind New York and many of its office space developments are considered architectural trendsetters.

The ‘Windy City’ gave the world its first steel-frame skyscraper in the late 19th century and its newest office blocks house many of America’s foremost financial companies.

Editor’s notes: The popular Loop district of Chicago is home to national and international heavyweight occupiers including the oldest and largest independent futures brokerage and clearing firm RJ O’Brien which is headquartered at South Riverside Plaza.
