Known as the ‘City of Presidents’, Quincy has an illustrious history but planners are very much focused on the future as they gear up for what looks like the largest development project the city has ever seen.
In addition to the extra million square feet of Massachusetts office space, the overhaul of the Quincy Center is to incorporate several housing units, a pair of hotels and a string of entertainment outlets.
More than a billion dollars is to be invested into the scheme by the city council and its private sector partner Street-Works Development, with close to 4,000 temporary jobs and over 5,000 permanent positions likely to be created as a result of the ambitious endeavour.
Local mayor Thomas Koch commented: “This is an unprecedented opportunity and a private-public partnership in the truest sense that will make Quincy the economic engine for the entire region in the years to come.”
“Through the years of hard work with the City and the Councillors, together we are ensuring Quincy is poised to grow and thrive for future generations,” added Ken Narva, co-founder and managing partner of Street-Works.
Quincy shares a border with Boston, the best-known city in Massachusetts, and it was the birthplace of the second and sixth US presidents, namely John Adams and his son John Quincy Adams.
