Advisory group Mercer plans Edinburgh office switch

[Published Oct 2011 and updated July 2023] The international advisory group Mercer is planning to switch office spaces in Edinburgh as part of its expansion plans in the Scottish capital.

A deal has been struck that will see the company’s staff occupying office space at the Quartermile development, one of the few in the city at present to offer large-scale floor plates on Grade A office space.

Mercer currently employs roughly 100 people in Edinburgh but its new offices will offer enough room for that figure to double in months and years to come.

The company’s workforce is still operating out of its offices in Hanover Street but will be moving into the Quartermile development in November, joining several law firms already in residence at the site.

Steven Blackie, regional business leader at Mercer, told the Scotsman: “The move demonstrates our continued commitment to growth and investment in Scotland.

“We have secured several major new clients in the past year and our new location offers the potential to expand our teams further as we continue to develop the business.”

Quartermile is comprised of a pair of sleek-looking office towers close to the main business, university and court districts of the city.

Grade A office space options in the centre of Edinburgh remain limited despite the city being its country’s capital and an economic mainstay.

Both Quartermile office blocks were designed by the well-known architect firm Foster + Partners and both overlook some of Edinburgh’s most historic buildings, including the castle that dominates the skyline.

Editor’s notes: As of July 2023, Mercer was located at Lochside Avenue on Edinburgh Park EH12 on the outskirts of Edinburgh city centre.
