Worldwide e-commerce giant Amazon.com has agreed a deal that will see it occupy an area of close to half a million square feet of office space in Seattle, Washington.
The space is classed as being grade A and is within the 1918 Eighth Avenue building in central Seattle, which reached completion less than two years ago but has been largely without tenants ever since.
Investment, development and management firm Schnitzer West has welcomed the commitment to Seattle office space from Amazon as positive news for one of the largest buildings on its books and for the city as a whole.
The Eighth Street site will become roughly 95 per cent full once the company’s staff are moved in as intended.
Dan Ivanoff from Schnitzer West said: “We are extremely pleased to have Amazon.com as a tenant at 1918 Eighth Avenue.”
Amazon is a Seattle-based company with operations around the world and its head-quarters in another part of the city. The firm’s newest areas of Seattle office space will be within a 36-storey, LEED accredited development.
The company’s move to 1918 Eighth Street has been rumoured for several weeks and local real estate analysts are hoping that the large-scale commitment to the city will have a positive impact on the office space market in central Seattle.
