Bosses of the financial services business Barclays Wealth have welcomed the completion of an extensive refurbishment process at their offices in Edinburgh.
The company is the UK’s largest wealth manager and its Scottish headquarters have been substantially renovated at considerable expense to ensure that Edinburgh-based employees have high quality offices to work from.
Scotland’s first minister Alex Salmond attended a ceremony at Barclays Wealth’s offices in Edinburgh recently and described the renovation effort as a testament to the company’s commitment to its operations in the city.
“Today is an important milestone for our growing business and also the financial services industry in Scotland,” said John Godfrey, who heads up the Edinburgh offices for the company.
“It demonstrates the underlying momentum we have collectively worked hard to build, and signifies our commitment to a dynamic and growing client base north of the border.”
Salmond was keen to stress his commitment to supporting the Scottish financial services industry and noted that there are some 2,400 people employed by Barclays Wealth around the country.
“Growth here will make this country more internationally competitive and Barclays’ commitment to further growth of its operations here is a valuable step on that journey,” he said.
Barclays Capital’s office space presence extends worldwide to incorporate locations across Asia, North America and the Middle East. Its most recent new office opening though was in the south-east of England, where the number of high net worth individuals is expected to rise considerably before the end of this decade.
A major focus for the firm in recent years has been tapping into demand for its services in Asia and particularly in India, where it now has offices in Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore and Kolkata.
