Bristol office space building tops out

[Edited April 2023] A new addition to the Bristol skyline has reached its full height as a new office building continues to be prepared for occupation by one of the English city’s leading employers.

The building in question is to incorporate some 62,275 sq ft of open-plan office space that will soon be a major operating base in the South West of England for the health insurance group Simplyhealth.

A small ceremony was held to celebrate the topping out of the new office building, which is being put together by BAM Construction and which is on course to win a BREEAM Excellent rating on the basis of its sustainability credentials.

The Simplyhealth House development site is in a part of Bristol called Clifton and within a designated conservation area. Expectations are that the building will be completed before the end of the year.

David Brown, from Stoford, the development firm behind the project, suggested the completed office building would be a great place for Simplyhealth’s 330 Bristol-based staff to work from.

“We are delighted to have been working with Simplyhealth and reached this important stage in construction of such a landmark scheme,” he said.

“We are very excited about this development as Clifton is a beautiful conservation area with good public transport links from the city centre, offering our employees a pleasant and desirable location in which to work,” added Simplyhealth spokesperson Mark Day in a statement.

The under-construction office building is not the first that BAM has worked on in Bristol, with the company having been behind the construction of Tower Wharf, a prominent four-storey office block in the city, in the mid-2000s.

Editor’s Note: The property completed in January 2014 following a 17-month build.

Due to 10% of the energy needs of the office building being delivered through renewable sources via an extensive rooftop photovoltaic arrangement, Simplyhealth House achieved a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating following completion.

It was also shortlisted for the 2014 Brick Awards.
