A historic building in Cleveland, Ohio has recently undergone a major renovation and has earned a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Certification from the US Green Building Council.
The Higbee Building, located on the city’s Public Square, has been transformed by KeyBank into a multi-use work space which will provide 221,000 square feet of office space.
Renovated with sustainability in mind, the building now features automated lighting and ventilation systems.
“This renovation represents KeyBank’s commitment to strengthen our community’s core in the most environmentally responsible ways possible,” said Henry Meyer, KeyCorp CEO.
“It enhances one of the most historic buildings in the heart of downtown, it leverages Tower City Center’s existing transportation hub and it allows hundreds of our employees to enjoy the growing sense of excitement connected to the area’s ongoing economic development.
“We’re very proud to have earned this recognition from the U.S. Green Building Council,” Meyer added.
Architecture outfit VOCON were hired by KeyBank to include green technology in the buildings renovation. Much of the material used for the job was recycled and the building features natural lighting, CO2 sensors and an outdoor air monitoring systems.

The US Green Building Council is a non-profit organisation founded in 1993, which promotes sustainability in the construction industry. It’s LEED rating system is used all over America.
Currently the Green Building Council has 18,500 member organizations from many different divisions of the construction industry.
