At what is described by Chadbourne & Parke as being a ‘prime Midtown location’, the international firm will soon be employing dozens of its lawyers and looking to drive growth worldwide. The offices were occupied by staff of Dewey & LeBoeuf, the law firm headquartered at the New York site, until it entered bankruptcy and was forced to wind up its business in May of this year.
For its part, Chadbourne & Parke has been based in New York since 1902, and its offices in the city have always been some of the largest. However, a focus on entering emerging markets worldwide has seen it open a string of new international bases in the past few years, including in the Turkish city of Istanbul and Sao Paulo in Brazil.
Architecture and design firm Gensler has been enlisted to recreate the interior of 1301 Sixth Avenue, ready for the law firm’s relocation.
“We intend to design and build an office for the future, leveraging some of the key drivers for our clients and our lawyers — efficiency, flexibility, and technology,” said Chadbourne & Peake’s managing partner Andrew Garcia. We will create a state-of-the-art workspace for our clients, our lawyers, and our staff.”
In related news, Herbert Smith and Freehills, two law firms in the process of merging their respective businesses, have opened a new office space in New York in recent days, having made several new hires from Chadbourne & Peake.
Editor’s notes: In February 2017, Chadbourne & Parke merged with British-American law firm Norton Rose Fulbright to form a combined firm known as Norton Rose Fulbright.
The firm employs over 3,500 lawyers and is one of the largest UK-headquartered law firms in the world, with global revenues of over $2 billion.
As of August 2024, Norton Rose Fulbright’s New York office was listed as 1301 Avenue of the Americas (also known as Sixth Avenue) on its website.
