Online map service Mapquest have announced that work has been completed on their new Denver headquarters.
The new headquarters consists of 17,000 square feet of office space in Denver’s Lower Downtown neighbourhood.
Designed to encourage maximum creativity and communication between colleagues, the space does not include any actual offices, and is all open plan.
The service will celebrate its 15th anniversary on April 25th.
Christian Dwyer, Senior Vice President and General Manager at MapQuest, said: “MapQuest is a collaborative, transparent and innovative team that moves at mach-speed.
“We wanted to create an environment that extended our brand and showcased our personality that embodies MapQuest’s vision for the next 15 years.”
The office space was designed by IA Interior architects. The firm used metal, glass and recycled materials in their design in order to ensure maximum sustainability.
The space was constructed in seven weeks by the leader of the project Stephanie Schimtz. The company were aiming for a ‘start up’ for the new offices.
Schimtz was quoted in design news website Dexigner as saying: “In addition to the start-up feel, MapQuest also wanted the construction and space to be environmentally conscious.
“We only used materials where we needed to, leaving an exposed concrete floor in many places, and incorporating repurposed wood, low-flow bathroom amenities, and non-toxic building supplies.”
The new office will be home to more than 60 employees and will also play host to a variety of tech events to be put on by MapQuest in the future.
MapQuest, which is owned by internet giant AOL, was founded in 1967 as Cartographic Services. The company recently announced it is to become the first map company to use open-source mapping.
