View Serviced Office Spaces in Newcastle
The Toffee Factory development in the Ouseburn Valley area of the city forms part of a broader regeneration effort and interest in its office space has exceeded expectations.
Creative Space Management set a target of having 10 per cent of the property pre-let before it opened in December but more than a third of the space available is already accounted for, the local-based Creative Room website reports.
Around £6 million has been pumped into the scheme designed to provide offices that function as a creative hub for small but growing businesses in and around Newcastle.
One local company planning to move to the site is Multiminded, a start-up approaching its first anniversary. Its director Fiona Birkbeck said: “The Ouseburn is a very creative place to be, I met my business partner Nic Schneiders in another creative building in the area, the Brick Works, and we look forward to collaborating with the other ‘Toffee Residents’ in the future.”
Toby Hyam, from Creative Space Management, said: “Once companies have moved into the building we hope they will join our vision of attracting others from outside of the region and act as ‘Toffee Ambassadors’ helping to put Newcastle firmly on the map and business plans of creative companies across the UK and internationally.”
Another northern English city aiming to establish a reputation as a centre for media businesses is Salford, Greater Manchester, where the MediCityUK endeavour is well underway and where the likes of the BBC and ITV are setting up in Grade A office space.
Editor’s notes: As of July 2023, tenants at the Toffee Factory at Lower Steenbergs Yard, Quayside include Attraqt, Bloom Digital, Carve Architecture, Luminous Group, Structic, and WakeApp, to name just a few.
At that time, Multiminded was based at Mushroom Works on St Lawrence Road in Ouseburn.
