The business software company Infor has announced its plan to switch its operating headquarters to an area becoming known as ‘Silicon Alley’ in New York City.
Infor has close to 8,000 employees and 120 offices worldwide and will be officially headquartered from New York office space from mid-2012.
Plans are in place for the company to join dozens of other internet and technology-based businesses now operating out of offices in Manhattan. Its current headquarters in the city of Alpharetta in Georgia are to be retained as its primary shared services centre.
Infor’s chief executive Charles Phillips said that after “year-over-year double digit growth” in 2011, the company is ready to move forward and advance the way it delivers high-tech services to customers worldwide.
Its New York City offices on the Avenue of the Americas are set to incorporate an ‘innovation center’ and the plan is for employees to work closely with the major universities located nearby.
“This state-of-the-art facility will enable us to hire and house developers and graphic designers to enhance the user experience and integrate social applications into the workplace,” Phillips said.
“We also plan to build a customer center that showcases these innovations in an environment as compelling as the technology itself.”
Infor noted in a statement that its offices will not include the traditional corner offices usually used by company executives but will feature an open-plan, ‘loft-style’ design. “The layout will fuel product innovation by providing an environment conducive to collaboration and transparency,” it said.
New York’s mayor Michael Bloomberg welcomed the commitment to offices in Manhattan by Infor, describing it as “another vote of confidence in our booming tech sector”.
