Renowned Hollywood talent outfit United Talent Agency (UTA) is to open its first office in New York in November, it has been announced.
Several key members of UTA are to make the move from Los Angeles to New York to get the new office up and running.
Among those making the move are the agency’s co-head of TV Talent Nancy Gates, and agents Steven Fisher and Allison Wallach.
It is understood that UTA has signed a lease on office space in 888 Seventh Avenue, located near 7th Street. The building is still under renovation, but will be ready for the move-in date.
As well as expanding the agency’s film and TV business in New York, the theatre, digital media and corporate consulting sides of the business will also be enlarged. A round of new hiring will also be implemented.
Thus far UTA has been the only major talent agency in the US not to have an office in New York. All its competitors, including WME, ICM, Gersh and Innovative Artists have substantial operations in the city.
It has also been rumoured that UTA is considering relocating its offices in LA in Wilshire Boulevard to the Red Building at the Pacific Design Centre in West Hollywood. However as of yet no contract has been signed.
Currently UTA is one of the largest talent agencies in the world, with over 100 agents representing actors, writers, producers and directors.
Among the actors represented by UTA are Johnny Depp, Harrison Ford, Ewan MacGregor and Anthony Hopkins.
Legendary in Hollywood is the ‘UTA Job List’, which purports to list many assistant positions for aspiring agent, manager hopefuls. UTA always refuses to comment on whether such a list actually exists.
