Weiner’s office space ‘requires thorough cleaning’

[Published Sept 2011 and updated July 2023] Congressman Bob Turner, who replaced the disgraced Anthony Weiner, has apparently found an old toothbrush in Weiner’s old office.

Turner found a toothbrush with ‘Anthony’ inscribed on it and deduced it belonged to the ex-Congressman. According to the New York Post, Turner’s wife then requested the office and adjoining bathroom be thoroughly cleaned.

The New York Post’s source said that Peggy Turner “personally requested that congressional cleaners be brought in to scrub the bathroom.”

Additionally, the tabloid reported the new Republican Congressman’s wife requested the office be re-carpeted and the chair replaced.

When asked about the matter Congressman Turner said: “I’ll defer to the taxpayers. We’ll use what we got. That’s not the most important thing I have to deal with.”

Weiner served as Congressman for New York’s 9th congressional district from 1999 to 2011 and unsuccessfully ran for New York mayor in 2005.

In June 2011, Weiner resigned from Congress after it was revealed that he had sent sexually suggestive photos of himself to various young women from his Twitter account.

Initially, Weiner denied having sent any of the photos, claiming that his account was hacked.

When more photos came to light Weiner admitted he had “exchanged messages and photos of an explicit nature with about six women over the last three years”.

Weiner is married to Huma Abedin, a former aide to Hillary Clinton. During the sexting scandal, it was announced that the couple were expecting a baby.

Meanwhile, Weiner’s replacement made a minor gaffe when being sworn into the House of Representatives.  Turner failed to wait for Speaker John Boehner to introduce him before thanking the crowd after being sworn in, defying a long-held tradition of the House of Representatives.
