Developers Gregory Projects and Marshalls have been tasked with completing the scheme. Among the priorities for the endeavour is providing 50,000 sqft of office space available for rent.
The Yorkshire Post reports that a restaurant and a 130-bedroom hotel were also among the designs for Whitehall Plaza that were given the seal of approval by the Leeds City Council after careful consideration.
The development will sit opposite the No 1 Whitehall building, which is currently occupied by the Leeds offices of the accountancy firm Grant Thornton, the law firm Cobbets, and Bank of New York employees. The newly green-lit plans will see Whitehall Plaza add considerably to the Grade A office space available in the area.
Richard Dunn, from the leasing agent Sanderson Weatherall, explained to the local newspaper that there is a relative shortage of high-quality office space to rent in the centre of Leeds and revealed that the new space will be offered as a suite of 12,000 sqft.
“This area continues to be the heartland for grade A office accommodation in the city with the distinct advantage of being close to the busy mainline rail station,” Richard Tovey, development director at Gregory Projects, is quoted as saying.
“We intend to pre-let the offices which will allow potential occupiers the chance to influence the overall design and layout of their space.”
Elsewhere in the north of England, the Peel Group recently submitted expansive plans to redevelop a vast area of Salford as part of its ongoing regeneration efforts in Greater Manchester. If given the go-ahead, the MediaCityUK scheme will deliver more than two million square feet of new office space in Salford.

The planned Premier Inn (hotel) was completed in 2017, and in January 2022, TCS entered into a joint venture with Glenbrook to advance the development of the site.
Planning consent was secured in May 2023 for two office buildings delivering 235,000 sq ft of Grade A, smart, and energy-efficient office space, a 478-space CitiPark car park, and a hotel/aparthotel.
The residential component of the master plan, creating 500 new homes, delivered by Glenbrook and Legal & General, commenced on-site in early 2023.
Scheduling of the latest commercial component had not been announced.
