Facts about Makespace
Why choose Makespace office space in Oxford?
The community interest company has drawn support from the likes of Oxfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership, the Step Change Fund, the National Lottery, and founding partners including Aspire Oxford and The Cag Project, for good reason.
As long-term members advise, in the past, taking the traditional commercial real estate agent route in searching for truly affordable workspace in Oxford led to a dead end. Particularly for creative ventures and charities with lower budgets.
The efforts of Makespace have had multifaceted benefits across the whole of Oxfordshire and taken underused, vacant and derelict commercial properties and breathed new life into them, simultaneously creating spaces for a diverse range of uses.
Now, the portfolio comprises 20 commercial properties that offer workspace solutions such as hot desks, private studios, and shared community spaces. The spaces are used for a wide range of other purposes such as storage solutions, retail spaces, galleries and cafes, too.
One of Makespace’s major projects was The Community Works which is a property owned by Nuffield College, University of Oxford but had been vacant for 8 years before Makespace got their hands on it.
It is now a place where people come to eat, drink, connect and collaborate and is home to JF Coffee, The Oxford Poetry Library, Oxford Playhouse, Live Illustration, Robyn MacDonald Knits, and Lula’s Ethiopian & Eritrean restaurant which sometimes doubles up as a gallery.
The Living Wage Employer loves to look after its own team but also thrives on seeing the successes of its tenants. And it shares those success stories far and wide using its social media platforms.
