About Media City UK

MediaCityUK is a 200-acre waterside development in Salford Quays in Greater Manchester that was developed and is owned by Peel L&P, a property company that was founded in 1972.

The scheme is built on land that was once the docks of the Manchester Ship Canal – described as one of the greatest feats of Victorian engineering and taking 7 years to create, the docks were opened by Queen Victoria in 1894 upon completion of the canal.

The canal connected Manchester and Salford to the rest of the world and was a key element of the Industrial Revolution.

Starting life as an industrious hive of activity, dock workers have now been replaced with technology innovators, and shipped cargo for streamed content.

Today, the scheme is home to media companies such as the BBC and ITV Granada as well as an ecosystem of digital media and tech companies providing ancillary services.

It is also home to Kellogg’s, the University of Salford and companies from a diverse range of other sectors attracted to the vibrancy and many benefits of the scheme.

In November 2021, it was announced that real estate investment trust Landsec had acquired a 75% interest in MediaCityUK and would work with Peel L&P on future phases of the 37-acre scheme.
