Located next to Gravesend and Marine Park, in the southeast corner of Brooklyn, Sheepshead Bay stretches from the Emmons Avenue waterfront to Avenue T, and from Knapp Street to Coney Island Avenue.
Sheepshead Bay was settled after the Civil War when visitors from the built-up city areas discovered the village by the sea which was like an oasis with cool ocean breezes and excellent seafood.
Towards the last quarter of the 19th Century, the area was a lively beach community with many hotels, a racetrack, and several restaurants.
Modern-day Sheepshead Bay retains much of its original charm and welcomes visitors from the Tri-State Area who come to relax, shop and dine in Emmons Avenue, and fish on charter boats.
Marine Park is close by with the Floyd Bennett Field and the Gateway National Recreation Area within a 10-minute journey, as are several smaller parks.
Commuting to and from Sheepshead Bay is easy as dozens of bus lines crisscrossing the area, as does the Q/B subway line.
For those driving, there is ample street parking on Emmons Avenue, and indoor parking is available for a monthly rental fee.
