About Oxford House?

Affectionally known as ‘the beating heart of Bethnal Green since 1884’, the Grade II listed arts and community centre was established by alumni of Keble College, Oxford as a ‘settlement house’ with the mission to tackle the challenges of urban poverty in the East End of London.

The students and graduates lived and worked in the property and created youth clubs, offered free legal advice, and provided adult education classes and cultural clubs for members of the community.

Today, it is described as an arts and community centre and remains a vital community hub in Bethnal Green offering a diverse programme of cultural and creative events, activities and volunteering programmes for all ages.

The unique property is home to a café, workshops, studios, a theatre, a roof terrace, and a historic secret chapel.

Oxford House also offers a range of other creative workspaces, private offices, managed shared workspaces, hireable meeting rooms and collaborative spaces and is the base of 30 local organisations, small businesses and larger organisations.
