Regus UK ‘Big 9’ Cities Offices

The Regus office space in the UK’s ‘Big 9’ cities does not provide the full picture of its expansive British portfolio. However, as the portfolio is so large with over 300 locations across the country, we felt it efficient to break it down somewhat.

Within the office agency industry, there is a subset of UK regional cities or office markets known as the ‘Big 9’ and these are Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester and Newcastle.

You can scour the web including the British Council for Offices website and you will not find a precise definition of the ‘Big 9’ UK cities, however, the most obvious defining factor is the total amount of office space taken up through lettings over the course of a year. In 2023, the minimum requirement for entry into the group was circa 250,000 square feet of office space leased.

The group’s 2022 take-up figures spread from Newcastle’s total of circa 240,000 square feet to Manchester’s circa 1.2 million square feet.

Office agents also sometimes refer to the ‘Big 6’ cities which are Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds and Manchester where the minimum requirement is set at around 400,000 square feet of office space lease transactions per year.
