Other arrangements include Trampery Flex which offers members access to workspace on any three days of a week – this option is becoming increasingly popular with remote home workers.

Although The Trampery’s properties provide space for artists and creative businesses, it is not all about the functionality or look of the architecture – the level of service is core to the workspace provider and will employ House Managers that have a wealth of experience in luxury hospitality as well as co-working sector and are passionate about building communities, for example.

The Trampery also provide hireable event spaces and meeting room facilities including at their sites in Tottenham, Fish Island Village and Hackney Wick, including a 2,000 sqft event space facility in Old Street.

These are popular with companies engaging in hybrid working as, with the high-resolution screens and 360-degree video technology, remote team members can attend meetings, collaborative projects and other gatherings, virtually with minimal traction.

Who are The Trampery?

Founded in 2009, The Trampery is a London-based purpose-led social enterprise that provides business support as well as creative workspaces out of 6 commercial properties in London.

Dedicated to making business a positive force in society, The Trampery has created an ecosystem of award-winning shared startup workspaces and sector-focused facilities, with more than 1,000 businesses supported by its community.

Providing acclaimed creative workspaces in Bow, Old Street, Tech City, Hackney Wick, Tottenham, Poplar, East India Docks in Tower Hamlets, Shoreditch and Fish Island in East London, The Trampery also provides venues, training and workplace community services to entrepreneurs.

With a mission to support entrepreneurs from all sections of society, the enterprise has introduced specialised courses for entrepreneurs working in fashion, travel and the arts

Partners of The Trampery include Accenture, The British Fashion Council, Barbican Centre, Peabody, Publicis and Expedia, and it worked with the Borough of Hackney and other bodies to establish the Tech City cluster and draw it out from its original core in Shoreditch.

With creative placemaking in London at its core, The Trampery has also worked with other partners to help underpin a new cluster that runs down the Lea Valley spanning Tottenham, Hackney Wick and Poplar with its Fish Island Village playing a key element of the project.

When The Trampery opened its first startup workspace in London’s Tech City in 2009, its mission was to create buildings that promoted interaction, welcome selected businesses that formed a strategic tenant mix, host social events that strengthened the community and provide business support programmes.

By 2022, The Trampery had created a community of over 500 members and, in the same year, became accredited by the Good Business Charter.

Facts about The Trampery

Why choose The Trampery flexible workspace?

There are several reasons why entrepreneurs and start-up businesses choose The Trampery.

Firstly, The Trampery is a B Corp workspace provider meaning that environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues are high on the team’s priority list.

Another reason is that it creates multi-award-winning workspaces in London and has won the Pineapple Award for Contribution to Place, the Civic Trust Award, was a finalist for the Building Project of the Year Award at the Constructing Excellence SECBE Awards, and also won the Workplace Provider of the Year at the British Small Business Awards.

The sense of community is a big pull for members and the social media feeds of The Trampery are choc-full of messages celebrating members’ businesses.

The social platforms are also used to increase awareness of interning and job opportunities, and grants, support and mentoring from bodies such as The Entrepreneurs Award for Social Innovation (EASI), for instance.

True to its founding tenets of hosting social events that strengthen community and provide business support programmes, it hosts an eclectic range of events that cover topics ranging from employee wellbeing through mindfulness, to the importance of gut health and mental health, and even hosts embroidery workshops, as just a few examples.

With social impact at its core, The Trampery reinvests revenues from workspace and venue hire services into the local communities it serves by providing free training and discounted workspace for underrepresented groups.

The social enterprise also puts sustainability at the heart of all its events working exclusively with local and independent suppliers that share its values ranging from social enterprise coffee roasters to community food businesses, that only deliver by bikes.

There are also no single-use plastics at any of The Trampery’s events and compostable packaging is requested wherever possible.

These are some of the reasons that businesses choose to base themselves at The Trampery’s workspaces and why certain member businesses, such as No Isolation, have been based at The Trampery for over 4 years.
