The new postcode was previously only used by the BBC TV soap EastEnders for its fictional East London setting of Walford.

Incidentally, the fictional name ‘Walford’ is a portmanteau of the names of nearby East London district Walthamstow and Stratford itself.

Stratford is a major National Rail interchange on the Great Eastern Main Line, North London Line, Elizabeth Line and Lea Valley Lines, and with just over 40 million passengers passing entering or exiting the station in 2018, it is the UK’s 7th busiest station.

The Elizabeth Line runs services to various stations in London from Stratford as well as to Heathrow Airport.
