Regus workspace continues to grow in popularity across the UK as it does around the world. The flex workspace provider was founded in 1989 and was one of the pioneers of the flexible office space sector. It now operates over 300 Regus workspace locations in the UK with thousands more across the globe.
As the company’s founder, Mark Dixon, stated in the first half of 2023, after the business had made record revenue, the growth in the flex office solutions sector was due to a “period of strong evolution” and that the pandemic “led to the lift-off of the hybrid model that some of us have been anticipating for many years”.
The hybrid working model was incepted in the 1960s and involves those who would traditionally only work in an office in a larger city working from multiple locations either in the home or in one of the employer’s smaller offices in a periphery location, either some or all of the time.
It has, of course, evolved over the decades gaining momentum in the 1990s with the introduction of personal computers in the home and reliable domestic internet connection. Some sectors fully embraced it for instance engineering companies, as did certain departments within various types of businesses such as travelling sales teams, however, in a study conducted in 2018, it was found that only around 3% of employees worked from home (WFH) more than half of the time.
The events of 2020 completely changed that and many businesses across the UK are now still utilising a similar hybrid working model to the one that was used to help them survive during the pandemic-induced office lockdowns.
