Sheffield office space revamp revealed

[Published September 2010 and last updated June 2026] An area of newly refurbished office space in Sheffield has been unveiled and is gearing up for new business, according to reports.

A telemarketing firm called Voice is behind the office space refit and expects its efforts and investments to create close to 500 jobs before the year is out.

Having been founded four years ago, Voice has outgrown its old office space but will retain a presence there as well as at its new 25,000-square-foot, upgraded residence.

Around £850,000 was needed to turn The Mount building in Sheffield’s Broomhill area into a site that will complement Voice’s ongoing expansion and help give employment opportunities in the city a significant boost.

Voice’s managing director, James Hinchliffe, said: “The new facilities at The Mount will provide us with the means to expand existing contracts for national brands such as Npower, E.ON and Swinton, together with a number of new contracts.

“These are very exciting times for Voice and Sheffield as we continue our aim to become the number one contact centre in the UK.”

Sheffield’s Chamber of Commerce has made clear its support of Voice’s office space refurbishment and described its expansion plans as “terrific news for the city region”.

Elsewhere in Yorkshire, the Leeds Council recently gave the green light to plans for a pair of new office space developments at Wellington Place in the west end of the city centre.

Editor’s note: Voice moved out of The Mount Building in 2021, and, in March 2023, it was announced that plans had been submitted to convert the property into flats.

The 1830s Grade II-listed property was originally built as a residential dwelling before being converted into offices by United Steel Companies in 1958.

And, in 1967, it became the regional headquarters office of the British Steel Corporation.

Research conducted in June 2026 found that the Sheffield office market had seen a strong start to the year, with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) announcing in March that it had signed a lease for 100,000 square feet at No.1 West Bar Square.

DWP agreed to rent the entire building, and this was Sheffield’s largest Grade A office deal in over seven years.

The West Bar scheme was planned to deliver 550,000 square feet of high-quality office space and over 350 build-to-rent homes and is located between Castlegate and Kelham Island.
