SkyScanner expands Edinburgh offices

[Edited April 2023] The online travel company SkyScanner has taken more space within the Quartermile One office space development that is one of the more high-profile new buildings in central Edinburgh.

SkyScanner counts its existing presence at Quartermile as its international headquarters and the company has been growing rapidly on a global basis over the past few years and particularly in recent months. There is a total of 105,000 sq ft of Grade A office space at the Edinburgh site, of which SkyScanner now accounts for 35,000 sq ft.

The company also has offices in Glasgow, as well as in Singapore and China, where SkyScanner is hoping to see very significant growth in the coming months and years. There are currently estimated to be some 25 million visitors to the company’s travel comparison sites each month and the British firm recently opened a new office in Miami with a view to boosting its presence across the Americas.

“It is testament to the quality and location of Quartermile One that such a globally successful, rapidly expanding business has taken additional space and chosen the development as one of its international hubs,” said Allan Matthews, a director at CBRE, which consultant on the deal.

“Quartermile One has attracted many high calibre occupiers. In addition to Skyscanner, this includes Maclay, Murray and Spens, Morton Fraser, Investec, Mercer and Gladedale – and the popularity of the development means there is now just one 9,763 sq ft suite remaining to be let.”

Quartermile One was designed by Fosters + Partners, one of the most renowned architects firms in the world and the building is one of four commercial developments being added to the same historic area of Edinburgh.

Since the travel company acquired its space, other tenants including Cirrus Logic, FanDuel, IBM and Investec have taken space at the scheme which is also home to retail and leisure tenants including Nanyang, Peter’s Yard, PureGym, Starbucks and Veeno.
