Leading law firm in office space upgrade

[Published April 2011 and updated June 2023] One of the UK’s largest law firms has announced that it is to move its Glasgow headquarters to a new and larger location.

Shepherd and Wedderburn are to move into a new 10,500 square foot office in prestigious West George Street in Glasgow. The move is forecast for June of this year.

The firm claim that the move will allow it to increase capacity by at least 25 per cent and that the increased office space will give it ‘greater flexibility’.

Michael Laird Architects have been put in charge of the internal design of the new headquarters.

Shepherd and Wedderburn CEO, Patrick Andrews said: “We are delighted to have secured this tenancy which underlines our intention to further invest in our Glasgow operation. We currently have a strong practice here – with key clients such as Chivas, Scottish Enterprise, ScottishPower and Taylor Wimpey – which we aim to build on.

“Glasgow expansion is a key part of our future strategy, especially in sectors like renewable energy where we have established ourselves as a market leader.”

Andrews went on to say that West George Street was a “prestigious address” which would allow the firm to save on energy expenditure through eco-friendly lighting and innovative printing systems.

Steven McLachlan of Montagu Evans, who acted on behalf of Shepherd and Wedderburn, said: “Glasgow City Centre is currently facing a shortage of top quality Grade A office accommodation, a situation which is likely to continue over the next 3-4 years, given the lack of planned new development.”

Demand for staff in Scotland has risen at its fastest pace for over three years a new Bank of Scotland survey has found.

March also saw significant improvements in the Scottish labour markets, the report stated.

Editor’s notes: As of June 2023, Shepherd and Wedderburn’s Glasgow office address was listed as 1 West Regent Street on its corporate website.
