Up to 12 employees based at the firm’s north-west offices are expected to lose their jobs as the closures take effect, the company said in a statement.
However, while the news is bad for staff at offices in Hale and Alderley Edge, Pannone has emphasised its commitment to building on its presence in nearby Manchester and London.
Expansion in London is now described as Pannone’s primary focus in the coming months, with an “ambitious recruitment drive” planned at its offices in Chancery Lane. A number of the firm’s senior lawyers are planning to switch from offices in the North-West to those in central London.
“The decision to close the offices in Hale and Alderley Edge is based on our strategic plans to further enhance our national reputation across a wide range of disciplines and specialist niche areas,” explained managing partner Emma Holt.
“We believe that will be achieved by moving away from small local offices to expanding our presence in London.”
Legal cases relating to life sciences and clinical negligence are among Pannone’s key areas of focus, and a number of new high-level appointments have been made in recent months.
Plans are in place for the business, which currently has a workforce of roughly 600, to double the size of its existing office base on Chancery Lane in the City of London.
Editor’s notes: As of June 2024, Pannone’s North West headquarters office was listed as 378-380 Deansgate in Manchester. Its London base was listed as 48/49 Russell Square, which is in Bloomsbury in Midtown, the traditional Legal Quarter of the UK capital, due to its proximity to the four Inns of Court.
