Ernst & Young to switch offices in Cambridge

[Published March 2012 and updated July 2024] Ernst & Young, the international professional services and advisory firm, is set to open a new office in Cambridge to improve its operations in the university city.

The business, which employs more than 150,000 people worldwide and has its headquarters in nearby London, plans to open a new local office at the Cambridge Business Park by the end of February 2012.

Ernst & Young describes the move from its current offices in Cambridge as reflecting its commitment to the East Anglian town and part of its ongoing effort to develop its operations in the UK.

“Ernst & Young is investing heavily in its UK practice, having recognised the potential for significant growth,” the accounting and auditing expert explained.

The offices used by the firm’s staff have been fitted with their specifications. They are located within a site designated as an essential local business development and innovation hub. Across the street from Ernst & Young’s business park offices is the Cambridge Science Park, founded in 1970 and home to dozens of highly regarded companies.

Cathy Taylor, a senior office for Ernst & Young in the region, said in a statement, “We see Cambridge as a thriving business community, and this investment reflects our commitment to the local marketplace and the importance we place on providing a high-quality environment for our people and clients.”

Ernst & Young has 695 offices in 140 countries worldwide and is among the so-called ‘Big Four’ auditing and accounting firms, along with Deloitte, KPMG, and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC).

The business generated several billion pounds worth of revenues in the year ending June 2011, and it has operating bases in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and the Asia-Pacific.

Editor’s notes: Ernst and Young rebranded to EY in 2013. In December 2023, EY announced that it would relocate to new Cambridge offices at One Cambridge Square.

In 2023, the firm employed 395,442 people and generated $49.4 billion.
