BCL, which is headquartered in Manchester in the North-West of England, chose offices in the City of London as its first official operating base in the capital after “careful consideration” of the options available.
The offices eventually chosen are on New Broad Street close to Liverpool Street and they were selected in part due to their proximity to the legal industry hubs in the City, as well as those in other nearby parts of London like Holborn, the West End and Canary Wharf.
Already with offices in Liverpool, Leeds, Bristol, Reading and Birmingham, BCL Legal was apparently keen to expand its presence in London as the result of growing demand for its services in city and across the region.
A number of leading company figures are now set to start working from their new offices, with managing director James Batt planning to divide his time between BCL’s London and Manchester bases.
“Opening in London has never been a vanity project; it’s based on a real demand from our clients – both in the Central London and across the South East,” said Batt in a statement.
“This is an exciting step for the whole company and our drive is now firmly set on building up our profile to make it a real success so it mirrors our presence in the rest of the UK,” he added.
The City is among the most expensive places in the world in which to rent office space. Earlier this month, British Land announced that it had sold Ropemaker Place, one of its City of London office space assets, to a consortium led by AXA Real Estate Investments for almost £500 million.

Editors Notes: 10 years on from our first reporting of this story, BCL Legal remains in occupation at 46 New Broad St, London EC2M 1JH.
Other tenants at the property include flexible office space provider Office Space in Town (OSiT). The workspace operator rents office space from the landlord and has furnished it and fitted it to become a characterful boutique office space.
The company then effectively sublets space to occupiers that are looking for plug-and-play fitted office space on short-term flexible contracts.
Ready-to-go private serviced office suites are available at the property as well as hireable meeting and conference rooms.
When renting an office from OSiT, the monthly fee is inclusive of service charge, reception services, waste management, utilities and other overheads that would be managed and paid for separately when leasing an office in the traditional manner.
