Authorities and other relevant parties in the city of Austin had to pit their office space against that of rival states from across the country to win the deal that will see SunPower carry out its domestic expansions nearby.
The office space deals presented by Austin to SunPower were good enough to catch the eye and it surely didn’t hurt that the city happens to be in one of the driest and sunniest states in America.
Around 450 jobs are now expected to be created in and around Austin, with several million dollars to be invested into the development of a “major new office site” in the region.
“Texas has great potential to become a significant solar market,” noted Tom Werner, SunPower’s chief executive.
“If policies creating a stable solar market across Texas are enacted, this commitment by SunPower could be the start of significantly more investment and job creation in the state by the rapidly growing solar industry,” he added.
In other Texas office space news, the finance company Invesco recently agreed to a deal that sees it commit to renting an area of newly-renovated real estate in Houston for another ten years at least.
Editor’s notes: In May 2023, SunPower occupied two office buildings in Texas. SunPower’s corporate headquarter offices are located on Amberglen Boulevard and the company also rents office space on Waterford Centre Boulevard.
In 2022, the company posted revenues of $1.74 billion which was an increase on 2021’s figure of $1.32 billion.
The company advises, on its website, that Austin enjoys 228 sunny days each year and 89% of its buildings are solar-viable which lead to the city being voted the 21st-best solar city in the U.S. in 2020.
