Ad tech firm launches Hong Kong office

[Published October 2012 and updated August 2024] The American advertising technology company Turn has opened a new office in Hong Kong, launching its first Asia-Pacific operation.

Turn was founded and remains based in Silicon Valley, California, but it is keen to expand its business into potentially lucrative markets in various parts of Asia. The company focuses primarily on using technology to gain valuable insights into consumer behaviours in online environments.

In addition to its new offices in Hong Kong, the ad tech has decided to establish a new data centre in the same city to support the expansion of its regional business going forward. Several new customers were secured ahead of Turn’s move into Hong Kong. Cindy Deng, newly recruited from search engine giant Yahoo! will lead the company’s charge into Asia Pacific (APAC) markets.

“Turn has a strong global brand with unique cloud products that help marketers get better results,” said Deng, now managing director of Turn’s APAC operations. “I am looking forward to contributing my knowledge of the region to help Turn grow its customer base and solutions throughout APAC.”

Meanwhile, Turn’s president and chief executive Bill Demas said: “We are excited to bring the scale and power of Turn’s platform to the APAC advertising ecosystem. Cindy Deng will provide the leadership and operational experience we require to successfully grow our business in this region.”

Impressively, Turn has managed to at least double its annual revenue levels every year since it was founded. Its opening of a Hong Kong office means it now has operations on every inhabited continent in the world. Offices in Hong Kong are currently the most expensive to rent in the world.

Editor’s notes: In February 2017, it was announced that end-to-end advertising platform company Amobee had acquired Turn for 310 million USD.

Amobee is headquartered in Redwood City, California, and its website does not list Hong Kong as an office location.
