Asos sells a wide range of branded clothing lines aimed at fashion and budget-conscious young adults of both sexes. Its business has grown rapidly since it was founded in 2000, and it is now one of the largest independent online retailers of its kind based in Britain.
The company has continued to increase profits and the number of markets in which it operates even since the downturn in the British, European, and global economies began in late 2008. Although more and more of its revenues are derived from overseas countries, its offices and operations are still based in the UK.
Asos’ chief information officer, Pete Marsden, explained in a statement that the company’s first regional UK office has been opened with a view to taking on an enthusiastic and talented new workforce in the Midlands.
“As a company Asos has grown, despite challenging economic times, because of the innovative approaches we take to meeting our customers’ demands,” Marsden said. “Our innovation comes from our people; we seek out and recruit the very best talent because we know that they are the key to our success.”
“That is exactly what we are doing by creating a presence for the company in Birmingham. Birmingham feels like a city that has some big plans and is on the cusp of big things. We wanted to get in there first,” he added.
Asos recently revealed its trading figures for the first three months of 2013. Year-on-year retail sales were up 28 per cent in the UK and 45 per cent internationally. The company claims close to six million active users of its websites worldwide.
