SkyScanner, a flight-finding search engine and price comparison company, will open a new set of offices in Miami later this year. The UK company aims to continue its international growth efforts.
Skyscanner had a notably successful year in 2012, with its website traffic increasing by as much as 84 per cent over the 12-month period. Much of that growth came in the Asia-Pacific region, and bosses at the firm are now keen to replicate that kind of progress in North and South American markets.
The company’s increase in online traffic equates to roughly 30 million visits per month internationally and that kind of demand for its services has led to sizable recruitment drive in recent months. The opening of a new SkyScanner office in Miami, Florida, is expected to underpin what are described as “ambitious growth plans” for the business across the Americas.
According to SkyScanner’s own officially reported figures, its website generated travel bookings for its airline partners on a scale of more than £2 billion during 2012, while its mobile app is now said to have been downloaded on more than 12 million occasions.
“We plan to match our success in Europe and Asia across the Americas,” said Gareth Williams, SkyScanner’s chief executive and co-founder.
“We are already experiencing rapid growth in North and South America led by growth of our mobile apps and the time is right to establish our Americas base. It’s our ambition at Skyscanner to be the number one in travel search globally, and we’re confident that our Miami office will play a big part in achieving that goal.”
SkyScanner’s headquarters are located in Edinburgh and its offices within the Quartermile development in the Scottish capital are among the most innovatively fitted-out in the country. The site’s features include a games room, day beds and a library.
