Bosses praised the regional offices for their efforts from the 12-month period to the end of September 2011, noting a three per cent rise in overall revenues for activities across the north of England.
KPMG employs roughly 700 people at its city centre offices in Manchester, which are among the firm’s most important regional operating bases. The firm delivered growth in each of its tax-related, risk consulting, and corporate finance operations.
Jonathan Hurst, senior partner at KPMG’s Manchester offices, told the Manchester Evening News: “We are very pleased with our performance in an environment which was more challenging than most would have anticipated.
“Our driver has been to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our clients through difficult times. We continue to invest in our people and new ideas.”
In addition to Manchester, KPMG employs staff at offices in the northwest cities of Liverpool and Preston, as well as further north in Leeds and Newcastle. Hurst told the MEN that 2012 could be another difficult year for the firm, one of the so-called Big Four accountancy giants dominating the industry across Britain.
Overall revenues for KPMG in the UK were close to £1.7 billion in the year to the end of September, with profits down five per cent annually to £396 million.
The firm’s presence in Manchester is set to become considerably greater in years to come. It recently committed to leasing 62,500 sqft of offices at a still-to-be-constructed building at One St Peter’s Square. Developers Argent and the Greater Manchester Property Venture Fund are behind the scheme, which is scheduled for completion in the spring of 2014.
Editor’s notes: KPMG is based at One St Peter’s Square in Manchester, where it occupies part of the 10th floor as well as floors 11, 12 and 13.
The firm’s North England offices also include 8 Princes Parade in Liverpool, 1 Sovereign Square on Sovereign Street in Leeds, and Quayside House in Newcastle. As of June 2024, the firm did not operate an office in Preston.
In 2023, KPMG’s UK revenue grew by 9 per cent compared to the previous financial year, to £2.96bn, with a profit before tax of £364m.
