Mutual Mobile is hoping the move will enhance its position in what is a highly-competitive industry and build on the presence it has already established from its headquarters at offices in Austin.
Many of the development firm’s clients and operating partners are based along America’s west coast and so the opening of a new Californian office is viewed as an important step for the Texan start-up.
“We’re incredibly excited about integrating more deeply with the Bay Area’s technology community,” said Mutual Mobile’s 23-year-old founder and chief executive John Arrow.
“So many of our clients and partners are located in and around San Francisco that having an office here was really a no-brainer.”
Working on applications for some of the most widely-used mobile devices in the world, including the Apple iPhone, Mutual Mobile has collaborated with some of the biggest names in the sector, like Google and StumbleUpon.
The aim of the development firm is generally to deliver cross-platform solutions that can be used in a wide variety of industry sectors, from healthcare and education to banking and mobile commerce.
Around 80 of the organisation’s employees are currently operating out of its office space in Austin, where its headquarters will remain, while a further 35 to 40 are expected to be taken on in San Francisco as its new office takes shape.
Earlier this month, the web-based communications business WebsiteAlive reflected on the successful expansion of its office space in Houston, Texas, which it now expects to accommodate an ongoing growth effort going into 2011.
Editor’s notes: Founded in a college dorm room in 2009, Mutual Mobile helped Walmart debut a VR store demo in 2017 and built an AR experience for global cruise company, Royal Caribbean, in 2019.
In December 2022, it was announced that Mutual Mobile had been acquired by global digital engineering company Grid Dynamics.
Grid Dynamics is headquartered in Silicon Valley in the San Francisco Bay area and Mutual Mobile remains headquartered in Austin.
