The building in question has been dubbed the Boilerhouse. It forms part of the wider Soapworks regeneration project, which is so-called because it is based on the site where there was once a factory run by the multi-national soap maker Colgate-Palmolive. The entire site is undergoing a major revamp, ultimately delivering around 400,000 sq ft of additional Grade A office space to Salford.

Place North West reports that the project is being led by the America-based asset manager The Carlyle Group, along with its joint venture partners Nikal and Abstract Securities. Vital Services’ commitment concerns 20,000 sq ft of office space, which was made available after the scheme’s first phase was completed earlier this year.
“This letting is a significant step forward for the Soapworks regeneration project and reflects the quality of the space that we have created in this property,” said Ben Du Boulay, a director at the Carlye Group. “Having completed and let the Boilerhouse, I am excited about moving onto the next phase of this major regeneration project and creating a new community in Salford Quays.”
“The Boilerhouse met our desires as a business to stay committed to the Salford Quays area as the building is well-located for our staff,” added John Smith, chief executive of the Vital Services Group.
Salford is currently the focus of some of the most significant regeneration efforts in the north of England, with the MediaCityUK project delivering large quantities of new office space to the city. Major employers like ITV, the BBC, and dozens of smaller media-related companies have all opened offices in or close to the Salford Quays site in recent years.

In June 2019, it was announced that the Soapworks scheme was fully let.
