Nestle, which currently employs around 840 people at its offices in Croydon, has been seeking a potential new base in the same area for several years but was ultimately unable to find a suitable site.
The company expanded its search for new offices in southeast England last year and has officially lined up 1 City Place Gatwick as its future headquarters. Nestle’s hundreds of office-based staff are expected to be relocated before the end of 2012.
“This move represents an exciting new chapter for Nestle in the UK,” said Paul Grimwood, the company’s chairman and chief executive for the UK and Ireland. “We are investing across the UK to establish our next generation of world-class facilities.”
“Our new head office will provide a modern, efficient and attractive workplace for our people in an ideal location,” he said.
Nestle has a considerable presence in the north of England and the southeast. It recently invested close to £200 million in “transforming” its sweet-making factory in York and £40 million in establishing a centre of excellence for its European Nescafe Cappuccino operation in Cumbria.
Nestle is among the largest companies of its kind in the world, and its UK and Ireland subsidiary alone employs upwards of 7,000 people. Its most recognised brands include Kit Kat, Aero, Nesquick, and After Eight.
Editor’s notes: As of June 2024, Nestle’s Gatwick offices were listed as Park House South, Crawley Business Quarter, Manor Royal, Crawley, West Sussex RH10 9AD on its website.
Nestle’s UK headquarters are based in York. The Swiss multinational food and beverage company has been in Yorkshire since 1988, when it opened the original Rowntree factory on Haxby Road.
